ok, my view so far is narrow but that's ok. First off, yes its unfair if your map wasn't eliminated especially if its like ur teams worst map. Now map elim worked for me except for tiebreaker. I know I eliminated the 4 maps
and in the end I saw none of the 4 maps I eliminated for sure in the list, So yes I still think it all worked out. it has to b in the bottom 4 for it to def be removed if im right. now if an admin pmed white and said that it was wrong and that it did fuck up that is an error. If white just put in the wrong order and it picked it cus he made a mistake, then that's his fault. But yeah, Yes it is annoying to play again but every new thing has its hiccups. I wanted a tiebreaker so bad, when I was pmed duku as tb I didn't even argue, but I was originally told that we would have to reeliminate all maps so I was confused by this duku.

first of all, the correct maps should be divulged on what should have been picked. Especially if White tried to verify the right maps and was told that they were correct, pryxon should be replayed.

Hard situation to deal with. Reality is, 3 week season, when is there going to be time to replay the match even if they wanted to? That's a whole week of matches getting replayed that'll cross into the unwanted holiday seasons.
I understand both sides here, it sucks. But the rule from my experience has always been if you click in, you are agreeing to the the map and server settings. It's a lose-lose scenario: if match is replayed, RJ's team ends up at a loss because their win against your team becomes null. If matches don't get replayed, your team still ends up lost. There's no pretty solution here that will make both sides happy.

Cyrax does make a point though about the consistency of how the map picks were selected unfairly for each team.

Obviously impossible to determine an outcome without knowing the details of the map elimination, but for those who were wondering this is my guess at how map elimination probably works. Whoever implemented it can step in and correct me if I'm wrong.

(The numbers in the middle column are the rounds that the map was eliminated in)

Each team submits a list of maps ordered from least preferred to most preferred, and then maps are removed from the maplist according to these orders until only three maps remain. So in the first round of elimination team 1 removes acrony, and team 2 removes brokenlimits. Round 2 they both remove PryXon. Round 3 rune and complex are removed, etc.

Once only three maps remain, they need to be assigned to a team or as tiebreaker. It makes sense to do this by looking at the lists supplied by the teams and reading from the bottom (most preferred) until one of the three maps shows up. Mesmerize appears first, in team 2's list, so that would be team 2's map (it is their 'most preferred' of the remaining maps). Command then appears before Klondike in team 1's list, so Command would be their map. The final results would be:
Team 1: Command
Team 2: Mesmerize
TieBreaker: Klondike

This was a simple example. There are more complicated scenarios, like what if 4 maps remain, so only one map needs to be removed; which team decides that final elimination, or is there an alternate method for that situation, etc. Again, I'm just guessing. Whoever implemented it can step in and correct me if I'm wrong.

How to fuck up first week feeling for teams :|

I saw this immediately when our final match info was shown.
We eliminated BL but it would be first map. I asked: HOW?!

Admins agreed and we played the correct maps. So definitely the week will not be set to 0.

I can't believe you captains just clicked in tho. Would be shitty but I can see OW decide to count the results despite wrong mapsystem.

White was told by an admin that there was nothing wrong. Why wouldn't he click in?

yeah if captains asked and admins simply told "no it's correct" without double checking the 2 maplists of both teams that's a failure :(

wars where this also happened but captains didn't ask/notice should stay like they are.

a replay is imo the only option for the captains who noticed it but got as answer "nothing is wrong".
the elimination is very important for wars and to decide your chances on certain maps and outcome.

but it should also be very clear for captains that the 4 maps you give in first will absolutely be eliminated and excluded :(

I asked admins and they said it was correct (even though I still believe it wasn't) because it just doesn't make any sense what so ever to me. Should the maps that were played for my match actually been in a proper elimination they would have been completely different, I can pretty much assure. I believe that an IRC elimination should be done for the maps between captains - an admin doesn't exactly have to be present, captains could do it in PM and paste logs in the captain forum of map(s) are to be played.

Unfortunately I guess there was no way to be tested with teams and captains first hand and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is off but I think it is something that should be addressed since there seems to be a lot of inconsistency and upset captains on maps.

Imo that whole elimiation system is not the best option for this league and especially if it fails like it obv. did at whitechocs match.
If you want to implement an elimination system just do it on IRC with the 2 captains but imo the good old "one team picks a map and that has to be played" is the best system.

@Morpheus : mapsize doesn't effect the algorithm at all. it's as simple as this (code-wise a bit more typework but no genius needed)

teamA : 11A) rune 10A) ds 9A) broken 8A) complex 7A) mesmerized 6A) duku 5A) acrony 4A) grudge 3A) Klondike 2A) pryxon 1A) command
teamB : 11A) pryxon 10A) ds 9A) grudge 8A) acrony 7A) Klondike 6A) duku 5A) rune 4A) command 3A) mesmerized 2A) broken 1A) complex

maps deleted anyway : Rune Ds Broken Complex Pryxon Grudge Acrony
maps left with total score : 12) duku 10) mesmerized 10) Klondike 5) command

map1: command
map2: mesmerized
TB: klondike

only first 4 maps are eliminated, ds got in my example double eliminated, cba to type it twice
in other words : its possible only 4 maps of whole list are deleted if both teams exactly eliminate same maps.

best lowest score of team A gets played plus best lowest score of team B
TB could be a random pick between equal mapscores if so

maybe i explained myself wrong. It is about the maps played and what power you have over the maplist. With 11 maps your power is excessive in my pov. With 5 or 7 you still have to play maps you don't want.

Irrelevant tho :ugeek:

As it stands now [choc] won 1 map and should receive 3 points for that map win (if I understand the rules correctly). 3 points isn't that bad considering RJ team only got 6 points. If white's team replays the 2 maps and loses they would actually go down in the standings. Food for thought.
